Reality.....15 Minutes Til the End Of the World

nytheatre.com q&a preview by Felix Hiciano
June 3, 2013

What is your job on this show?
Actor.

What is your show about?
Social media has overtaken our sense of reality and is destroying our true identity.

When did you know you wanted to work in the theater, and why?
As long as I can remember, I always wanted to be an actor but I never had the guts to pursue it. Around 2 years ago, I went to see a friend of mine in a play written and directed by Richard Thomas Henle and I fell in love with the closeness of the audience. I asked Richard for an audition in his next play and I got the part. I've been working with him in the last 8 plays straight.

Why do you do theater (as opposed to film, or TV, or something not in the entertainment field)?
I love the closeness of the audience to the actor. As an actor, you have to be so in tune with your fellow actors on stage that you don't notice the audience. The response you get from the audience once you finish is exhilarating.

How did you meet your fellow artists/collaborators on this show?
I've been working with Richard Thomas Henle for the past 8 of his shows. Kilsis Julia is a friend of mines that I've known over 10 years. She audition for Richard and we have been working together for the past 4 shows. I am excited to be working with 6 new actors.

Which famous person would you most like to get a fan letter from: Denzel Washington, Maggie Smith, Ang Lee, Jennifer Lawrence?
Denzel Washington is an actor that I emulate. His longevity in the industry where he has worked on stage and film. The diverse characters he has portrayed is something I would like to do.

How important is diversity to you in the theater you see/make?
Diversity is important to me in the theater because as a hispanic actor I feel I have to work twice as hard to make it in the industry. I would go out and support fellow actors and keep us working in the industry.
