現世幽世UTSUYO KAKURYO ~passing by the other shore q&a preview by Yoshi Amao
January 17, 2013

What is your job on this show?

What is your show about?
A powerful ninja clan leader hovers between life and death in the midst of a battle.

Where were you born? Where were you raised? Where did you go to school?
I was born and raised in Osaka, Japan, and graduated from college there. I learned acting, Japanese classical dance and kendo(Japanese sword fighting) there as well.

What are some of your previous theater credits? (Be specific! Name shows, etc.)
Deadly she-wolf, assassin and armageddon!(Japan Society, NY/Mandell Theater, Philadelphia) , The Karaoke Show(Project 400), Cannibal the musical!(Saturday Player Production), Gekiryu (Samurai Sword Soul, Theater@DNA)

What was the most memorable/funny/unusual thing that has happened during the development and rehearsal process for this show?
Two of our cast could not come back from Japan to New York by accident during the rehearsal. Then, the director and the rest of the cast got together and tried to make up for that. We are still in the middle of it!!! Very focused!!!

Which cartoon character would you identify your show with: Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Mickey Mouse, Marge Simpson?
Bugs Bunny. He is confident, active and also sensitive. He must understand the sense of this show.

Theater is a necessary ingredient in democratic societies. Do you agree or disagree, and why?
Of course, I agree, because it is "LIVE", which means nobody cannot stop anything at that moment. We can express whatever we like directly to the audiences without any control of commercialism, authority and politics.
